How is the resale value?

Depreciation compared with Japanese and Korean rivals, market by market.

The short answer

Resale value is improving for some Chinese brands, but it is still highly market-specific. A strong new-car warranty does not automatically create a strong used-car market.

The safest assumption is that established brands with official distributors, visible service networks, and steady new-car demand will hold value better than unfamiliar brands with limited local support.

What the data shows

Used-car value depends on local buyer confidence. Buyers look for warranty transfer rules, service history, battery-health evidence, spare-parts availability, finance acceptance, and whether insurers understand the model.

EV resale has an extra layer: battery warranty, real range, charging standard, and software support. A model with attractive new-car pricing can still depreciate quickly if the second buyer worries about battery diagnostics or parts lead time.

Fleet adoption can help liquidity when it proves durability, but it can also increase used supply. That is why each country/region needs its own price tracking rather than one global depreciation rule.

What to check before you buy

  • Compare used listings for the exact model, model year, trim, and mileage in your market.
  • Ask whether battery and vehicle warranties transfer to the next owner.
  • Check service records and whether official diagnostic reports are available for EV battery health.
  • Avoid assuming a large discount is a bargain if the brand has no active local distributor.

Market differences

UAE buyers should compare official-import cars with parallel imports, because warranty status can strongly change resale value.

Singapore resale is shaped by COE remaining life, PARF/OMV mechanics, and dealer confidence, so overseas depreciation tables are not enough.

Australia and the UK are more sensitive to safety ratings, finance panels, and insurer familiarity when newer brands enter the used market.
