The GAC M8’s interior is genuinely roomy and flexible, with three full-size rows that accommodate adults comfortably. The cabin is exceptionally well insulated from wind and road noise, making long journeys relaxing. The PHEV variant’s electric-only mode delivers smooth, near-silent progress for short trips, while the petrol engine is refined and unobtrusive on the highway. Materials used throughout feel premium for the segment, with soft-touch surfaces and thoughtful detailing.

On rougher roads, the ride can be firm, especially with larger wheel options. Third-row access requires a bit of a climb and the seats don't slide as far forward as some rivals’, making entry a compromise. The infotainment system is mostly responsive but occasional lag can be frustrating. The PHEV’s electric range is sufficient for daily commutes, but falls short of the longest-range competitors in the class.

Around town, the GAC M8 feels its size but the steering is light and the turning circle acceptable. The powertrains—both ICE and PHEV—deliver smooth, linear acceleration that suits the MPV character. Highway cruising is a highlight: the cabin stays hushed even at higher speeds, and the seats offer excellent lumbar support for both driver and passengers. The third row folds flat into the floor, creating a large, usable cargo area. The PHEV’s charging port is located at the front, which can be inconvenient when parked nose-in. The infotainment screen is clear and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the climate controls are buried in submenus.

Early production examples have been known to experience occasional electrical glitches, such as infotainment resets or sensor warnings. These are typically fixed under warranty. Build quality is generally good, with consistent panel gaps and durable interior materials. The service network is expanding but may still be limited in some regions outside of major markets. Parts availability is improving as GAC’s global presence grows.

The PHEV version is especially appealing for those with access to charging and a short daily commute, offering near-silent electric driving and lower running costs.
